About This Experience

David Shkolny will demo a pastel landscape, starting with blocking in a sketch with vine charcoal. First, light layers of pastel are added to establish colour and value, using light-pressure strokes. Then, the side of the pastel is used to make marks, working from dark to light values. As it nears completion, more pressure is added to strokes, and the lightest values are put in last.
